Kids’ Corner

This is all about what you can find (and do!) on the Commons…

What can you spot when you are on the Commons?

There are many different trees and plants, together with foxes, badgers, deer, many birds and hundreds, possibly thousands, of types of insects… Do you know that 500 different moths have been identified?

So, keep your eyes open and see what you can find. You can use the Photo Gallery links above to help you identify butterflies, moths and lichens. You can also use the following for identification (it is all on apps or on-line nowadays):

Trees: www.woodlandtrust.org.uk, an app for a phone

Plants, fungi and lichens: www.plantlife.org.uk

Birds: https://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/, a great phone app

Butterflies: https://chartfarosh.com/british-butterflies-chart/

Moths: https://www.ukmoths.org.uk/

There are many more resources, of course, these are just some you can try.

Anni Jones has created some pages for you to use to see what you can find. Click on the links and you can print them off. If you get some good photos do email these to Lindsay Griffin. She may be able to add them to our Newsletter – and there is the annual Photo Competition in November too.

What you will find will depend on the season, Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter, look here….

And here are a few more things:

And some things to do - depending on the weather! (and with your parents approval of course)

If you enjoy cricket, or want to give it a try, there is a great club on the Commons, go to:
